A Sustainable Garden by Design

Olbrich Botanical Gardens connects people with plants, but its more than that. We celebrate our relationship with the earth, respect our impact on the natural world, educate our community on how they can make a difference, and inspire others to do the same.

Right Plant, Right Place

At Olbrich, plants are equally selected to enhance the aesthetics of a garden space and for their ability to thrive in the specific conditions of the site. The concept of “right plant, right place” is paramount in keeping plants healthy without inputs of water, fertilizer, and pesticides. If plants cannot live without these energy and chemical inputs that negatively impact the environment, then they are culled from the gardens and replaced with better-adapted species.
