Ever wonder how a caned chair seat is made? Do you have caned chair seats to replace? In this class, participants will hand cane a wooden trivet of their own using natural strand cane to learn the chair caning process. We will also discuss the difference between various types of caning, different caning materials, the 7-step method of hand caning, how to care for caned furniture, and additional chair caning resources.
$115 per person
In this 3-hour workshop, you’ll use a black oil/wax pencil to outline the design on translucent film. Then we'll add alcohol inks and various textures to simulate the look of glass. You will create two different 7" diameter designs that will both be matted to 12x12. No experience is necessary and all supplies are provided.
The centuries-old art of bonsai is an exercise in patience, attention, and creativity. We will abbreviate the process by turning a container-grown nursery juniper into a living sculpture over the course of this class, with hands-on work on your very own tree. Bring a shallow 6-10” pot (or we’ll provide a plastic one) to take your tree home in, and gloves if you prefer.
