Plants are great, but it's the people that make our garden special.
Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at Olbrich’s Blooming Butterflies exhibit! Work side-by-side with staff to feed the butterflies in the Bolz Conservatory. Learn where the butterflies come from and how they are cared for. We will release some butterflies if they are ready to fly! Ages 5-11 with an adult; adult attends free.
Our Blooming Butterflies event offers a unique opportunity to photograph some of the most colorful insects around in a tropical environment. Learn more about macro concepts and equipment as we focus on the challenges associated with fast moving small subjects. Suggested equipment includes a DSLR or mirrorless camera, flash with off camera cord or wireless, and a macro or close focusing lens. Cell phones are welcome, but not all classroom info will apply. Please do not bring a tripod. There will be time to eat while getting cameras ready for the active photography portion of the class so packed a lunch along with your camera.
Enjoy a stroll through the gardens with horticulturist Samantha Malone while learning some basic tips on using flowers from your own garden to make bouquets. After the walk, you will get a step by step bouquet-making tutorial. Then practice your new skills by designing your own bouquet using flowers from Olbrich to take home at the end of the evening!
