Leaf Mulch Production Manager

Temporary Staff Position

Goal of the Position:  To manage the production of 8,500 bags and 340 bulk loads of leaf mulch for Olbrich's Spring/Fall 2013 Leaf Mulch Sales. Supervising and working with volunteers from the Dane County Huber Program.

Location:  Olbrich Botanical Gardens:  Outdoors, behind Garver Feed Mill

Responsibilities:

• Using a tractor and mower to grind composted leaves to make 8,500 bags and 340 bulk loads of leaf mulch
• Manage a group of volunteers from the Dane County Huber program to fill, seal, and stack 8,500 bags of leaf mulch
• Carefully supervise Huber volunteers, adhering to specific rules and regulations

 

Essential Functions

• Ability to supervise a varied volunteer work group
• Able to operate large equipment, including a tractor with bucket, mower, and forklift because of prior experience
• Ability to lift 60 pounds unaided
• Ability to bend and stoop
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions particularly those found in late winter/early spring
• Ability to meet the schedule as outlined
• Able to work independently
• Able to adapt and reprioritize based on changing circumstances
• Able to communicate clearly orally and in writing

 

Schedule

Spring Grinding (49 hours)

January 28 - February 1

Hours: Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (one hour unpaid lunch)

Bagging (315 hours)

February 4 - April 5 (or until 8,500 bags)

Hours: Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (one hour unpaid lunch)

Full Service Leaf Mulch Sale (27 hours)

Thursday, April 11, 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Friday, April 12, 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Saturday, April 13, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Thursday, May 23, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Friday, May 24, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Spring Bulk Grinding (40 hours)

April 15 - 19

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (one hour unpaid lunch)

Spring Bulk Sales (30 hours)

Thursday, April 18, 12:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 20, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Thursday, April 25, 12:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 27, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Saturday, May 4, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Saturday, May 18, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Fall Bulk Grinding (49 hours)

September 12 & 13,16 - 20,

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (one hour unpaid lunch)

Fall Bulk Sales (20 hours)

Saturday, September 21, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Saturday, September 28, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Saturday, October 5, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Saturday, October 12, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Pay: $11 per hour
