Weekend Entrance Docent

Position Description

 

 

Goal of the Position:  This indoor, weekend position is responsible for orienting Blooming Butterflies visitors to the Conservatory while complying with USDA regulations and monitoring traffic flow.  Must be friendly, out-going and enjoy contact with the public.

 

 Location:                    At the entrance to the Conservatory

 

Responsibilities:            Welcome and introduce visitors to the exhibit by providing a brief educational introduction

   Regulate the number of visitors

   Promote respectful and responsible enjoyment of the exhibits

 

Qualifications:              Enthusiasm for working with the public

   Comfortable engaging visitors

   Able to stand for 6 hours at a time, with one ˝-hour break

 

Orientation/Training: Monday, July 14, 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Dress:                         Khaki or tan slacks, nice shorts, or skirt with a white or green shirt of your choice during the event.

Time Commitment:      Saturdays and Sundays, 9:45 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.

                                  July 12-13, 19-20, 26-27; August 2-3, 9-10                

Pay:                       $9 per hour

Olbrich Botanical Gardens, owned and operated by the City of Madison with support from the nonprofit Olbrich Botanical Society, features 16 acres of outdoor specialty gardens, a 10,000 square foot tropical conservatory, gift shop, meeting rooms, and horticultural library.  Olbrich Gardens has an annual visitorship of 250,000 and is a destination tourist attraction.
